How do I make a CHAPS/BACS payment?
Direct Debit for regular payments
To set up regular payments to your account, you can set up a Direct Debit.
Debit Card payments
For one-off or single payments, you can make a debit card payment via the website. Once you have logged in, the Cash Manager section enables you to add cash to an account. You can make a debit card payment to your account using the Add Funds button.
You may also deposit cash into your Barclays Stockbrokers account directly from your nominated bank account using either of the following electronic transfer methods (please be aware if looking to fund a Company dealing account the funds must come from a bank account in your companies name):
BACS - 3 working days
BACS payments take 3 working days to clear; they are entered into the system on the first day, processed on the second day, and cleared on the third day. BACS payments are free of charge. Direct Debits are also made using the BACS system – you can set up a Direct Debit.
CHAPS – same day (if requested before 1pm)
CHAPS payments are useful if you need to urgently transfer money. It is most commonly used for house purchase transactions, to send money to someone, or when you buy a house and your solicitor needs to send money to the vendor.
Please note there is a charge of £25 for this service and you will need to have requested this prior to 1pm in order for the payment to reach your account the same day.
Although a CHAPS payment is same day, the process is not instant. CHAPS payments, provided they are requested before cut-off time, will be sent as requested to your Bank before the close of business the same working day. The payments will be made same day, however it is up to the Bank receiving the funds to then allocate the funds to your Bank account and this is outside our control.
