Question

What is a CHAPS payment?

Answer

CHAPS is a same-day UK electronic transfer. CHAPs payments are useful if you need to urgently send money to someone or when you buy a house and your solicitor needs to send money to the vendor.

Please note there is a charge of £25 for this service and you will need to have requested this prior to 1pm in order for the payment to reach your account the same day.

Although a CHAPS payment is same day, the process is not instant. CHAPS payments, provided they are requested before cut off time, will be sent as requested to your Bank before the close of business the same working day. The payments will be made same day, however it is up to the Bank receiving the funds to then allocate the funds to your Bank account and this is outwith our control.
